OGIER FRUSTRé PAR LES PNEUS HANKOOK POUR SA DERNIèRE EN RALLY1 SUR ASPHALTE
Engagé sur son cinquième rallye de la saison, au Japon, Sébastien Ogier a dû se contenter d'un podium. Deuxième derrière un Elfyn Evans impérial, qui a affirmé son statut de leader du championnat, le nonuple champion du monde a d'abord vu l'écart se creuser vendredi, lorsque sa position d'ouvreur sur une route humide et de plus en plus sale a fait le bonheur de son coéquipier gallois.

Jamais en mesure de réduire suffisamment l'écart pour devenir une menace directe, Sébastien Ogier a confié que la tenue des pneus Hankook dans la chaleur nippone lui avait posé problème.
"Je pense que cela a été amplifié par les températures ce week-end", a-t-il confirmé auprès de Motorsport.com. "La chaleur, ainsi que le fait que les virages s'enchaînent dans les spéciales, sollicitent énormément les pneus en termes d'efforts et d'énergie."
"Encore une fois, il n'y a aucune excuse. Tout le monde avait les mêmes pneus, c'est simplement que je n'ai pas réussi à gérer ce paramètre autant que je l'aurais souhaité et je n'ai pas pu attaquer comme j'en ai habituellement la capacité sur l'asphalte. C'est comme ça. C'était la dernière manche [sur asphalte], donc maintenant nous devons nous concentrer sur autre chose."
Je savais dès les premiers calculs que ces pneus ne seraient jamais géniaux pour moi.
Le pilote tricolore a bien tenté de trouver la clé dans les réglages de sa Toyota GR Yaris, mais en vain. Dès l'arrivée de la dernière spéciale, il avait envoyé une pique en regrettant "de ne pas avoir fait avec de vrais pneus" ce baroud d'honneur de la génération Rally1 sur asphalte.
"Nous avons essayé tout ce que nous pouvions au niveau des réglages, mais cela ne correspond tout simplement pas à mon style de pilotage", a précisé Sébastien Ogier. "Je savais dès les premiers calculs que ces pneus ne seraient jamais géniaux pour moi. Jusqu'à présent, j'arrivais à m'en accommoder, mais avec des températures aussi extrêmes, c'était plus difficile et je n'ai pas réussi à les gérer aussi bien que je l'aurais souhaité."
"Mais d'un autre côté, mon rallye n'a pas été mauvais. Le rallye s'est simplement joué dans une spéciale à cause de la position de départ. Elfyn a été performant, il mérite sa victoire et il a fait un excellent travail."
"Nous ne pouvons pas vraiment nous reprocher grand-chose ce week-end. Je pense que nous avons été corrects, pas aussi performants que ce à quoi les gens sont peut-être habitués de notre part sur l'asphalte, mais ce n'était pas non plus une mauvaise prestation."
